June 2025

Our dearly departed Don Slusser has bequeathed one last gift to the GPRRC by way of his wife Tammy. Tammy recently unearthed a copy of the first GPRRC yearbook from 1974 while going through some of Don’s stuff. The yearbook can be viewed here or on the archives page along with many of the old newsletters from the 1980s through the early 2000s.

April 2025

With this short note, I, on behalf of the GPRRC, wish to acknowledge the death of Don Slusser, who tragically passed while kayaking in Tennessee on Friday, April 11.  Don and his dear wife Tammy are two treasures that we have long been proud to call “ours”.  Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to Tammy and her family.  May they derive some comfort from knowing that their grief is shared by the entire local running community; a testament to the number of lives Don and Tammy have touched so deeply.

Sincerely,

Jason Winschel

Happy New Year 2024!

After some 35 years or so, the GPRRC has a new president. With this note, I would like to acknowledge the work done by Bruce McGlothlin, who has led this club for so long. Bruce has been the welcoming face of the GPRRC and the director of half of the runs we put on each year for decades now. Just about any and everyone who has run with us has received a smile and a kind comment from Bruce at one point or another. Truly proper recompense for the torture of the various courses he has guided us through! We have all gained by our association with this venerable man whose heart matches the size of his mustache. Fortunately, Bruce plans to continue directing his various trail runs in South Park. We certainly hope he will do so for many years to come. In the meantime, I hope you will join me in thanking him when you see him for his service as president dating back to the 1980s.

In the meantime, we are looking for run directors. Interested parties are asked to contact me at jwinschel@verizon.net.

Happy Trails in 2024
